HOW TO CUSTOMISE BACHMANN’S PCA WAGONS
Bachmann’s PCA cement wagons are very good straight out of the box, but there are some handy tools and techniques to add finesse and individuality, as Steve Nall demonstrates.

Of the various ready-to-run 1980s cement tanks made in the contemporary, ‘super detail era’, Bachmann’s PCA Metalair is particularly good.
Following Model Rail’s review in 2014 (MR195), I bought one and immediately loved it. In order to create a realistic train, I have since collected nine more, but it was only recently that I finally took the plunge and decided to individually detail and weather them.
Critical to the project was research, and the internet proved an invaluable resource, not least to ensure that my plans for weathering were based on true-to-life dirt marks; defined on the PCAs by continuous vertical streaks and patchy dirt on the higher areas of the tank barrels.
