Circuit judges, one capturing the moment with his cellphone, enter the annual Judges Service at Westminster Abbey on October 1. The highly decorated event, which marks the start of a new legal year, dates back to the Middle Ages; wigs have been worn in British courts since the 17th century. The service, attended by more than 700 judges, was led by Dean of Westminster John Hall.
