GROWING PASSION

Words Holly Reaney | Photographs Mark Bolton
Almost everything in Beth Tarling’s overflowing garden begins its life in the flower shed, whether as seeds collected from last year’s stems, hung from the ceiling to dry, or from the bulbs stored over winter in the larder
One of Beth’s favourite additions to the garden, the wormery produces the perfect soil for potting up seedlings due to its fine texture and high levels of nutrients. ‘It’s also a great way to turn the garden and kitchen waste into something useful,’ she says

Everything in nature exists in a cycle: the new life of spring follows the desolation of winter; the abundance of the autumnal harvest follows the blooming summer. Seeds are sown and tended, they grow, are harvested and produce their own seeds, so that the process can restart with the next generation the following spring. It is this simple, natural order that inspires Beth Tarling’s own traditional gardening style.
