Much smaller and more lightweight than the popular RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM standard zoom, this one is much more convenient for all-day shooting. Naturally, it has a slower, variable aperture rating compared with its constant-aperture sibling, shrinking to f/7.1 at the long end of the zoom. As such, it’s slower than any other lens in the group, but that’s not a deal-breaker for general shooting, as Canon’s EOS R-series cameras will perform at high ISO settings.
Speaking of close-ups, you can capture great detail with the 0.5x magnification ‘Centre Focus Macro’ facility. Other neat features include a 5-stop image stabilizer but, unlike with the RF 35mm lens here, there’s no extra, customizable control ring. In this case, the 24-105mm zoom is fitted with a ‘Focus/Control’ switch, so you can use the forward control ring as a regular manual focus ring or for other customizable functions. The lens feels solid and well-engineered but lacks weather-seals and the hood is sold separately.
