Sitting down to talk with Battlefield 2042’s senior design director, Daniel Berlin, we can’t help talking about the weather. No, it’s not just our Britishiness coming through. Alongside on-the-fly weapon adjustments, customisable classes, and PS5’s 128-player support, weather is a huge addition to the massive shooter, one that fundamentally changes how it plays.
“So, playing a breakthrough match, for example, where you’re attacking two points and just completely stuck and you can’t get through, the defenders are too tight, then sometimes, not every time, but sometimes a massive twister can just enter,” says Berlin, as we ask him how this weather works in practice. “The defence support that was sitting on that flag [you wanted to capture] are now spinning up in the air, and vehicles are being tossed left and right and landing right next to you, and things have been ripped down.”
