End of the monarchy?
The articles about the monarchy in the September issue are interesting. On the one hand, the Queen is a good monarch because she says little and does nothing of importance. On the other hand, Prince Charles will be a bad monarch because he says a lot and might do things. So, one might ask what is the purpose of a monarch who “hears all, sees all and says nowt?” Is she really needed? Arguably not and it would make little difference to the UK if she and her dynasty were abolished. That seems to me to be no better, and may even be worse, than a monarch who is prepared to get involved. Both arguments seem to be equally strong for abolishing the monarchy. Perhaps when Elizabeth II dies, we should grasp the nettle. Ronald Havenhand, Nantwich
