Women Talking

Miriam Toews

Knopf Canada, Aug.

Miriam Toews, whose previous novel, All My Puny Sorrows, won the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, returns this fall with a book that marks a bold departure. After a group of Mennonite girls and women are drugged and assaulted, eight female members of the community – and one trusted man – convene in a barn to decide how to respond to the atrocity. Inspired by true events that took place between 2005 and 2009, Toews’s novel unfolds over the course of 48 hours as the women debate whether to remain in the tight-knit community or flee.
