A JUDGE has ordered Network Rail not to replace the vintage gates at a ‘high risk’ level crossing in Sussex, after a council had refused planning permission for the work to go ahead.
NR had written a letter of apology to residents in Plumpton who had been protesting that the road across the railway had already been closed for several weeks.
At a public meeting in the village on16 October, Network Rail said that the present gates were no longer safe and would be replaced with modern full-width barriers later in the month, so that the road could open again in mid-November . But Lewes District Council then obtained a legal injunction.
