THE Great Central Railway (GCR) celebrated the 50th anniversary of running trains in preservation in style over the weekend of June 17/18. A notable attraction on the first day was the operation of a train of 50 restored wagons hauled by BR ‘9F’ No. 92214.
The goods train comprised a variety of vehicles – including vans, mineral wagons, coal hoppers, tankers and brake vans. Of these, 34 had been restored by the Quorn Wagon & Wagon group, the remainder being the Windcutter Project’s 16T mineral wagons.
Carrying an appropriate headboard, BR ‘5MT’ 4-6-0 No. 73156 hauled a VIP and anniversary special on the Saturday.
