Railways Illustrated  |  October 2025
Welcome to the October 2025 issue of Railways Illustrated.
Inside this issue includes: Our fix of nostalgia this month comes from Kim Fullbrook, and I must say it’s not just the lovely blue locos and blue and grey stock that looks so nice; it’s the wonderful signalling infrastructure – the signalboxes and signals themselves, not to mention the stations and the freight trains. I know the railway
had to modernise, adapt, and change, but I do miss glorious sights such as a 40 or a pair of 20/25s on a long mixed freight, with their wagons clanking and juddering and the brake van stove alight!
Ten Pictures comes from John Stretton, whose selection of images certainly aren’t just a collection of lineside front three-quarters shots.
And finally, we have a few pages devoted to The Greatest Gathering. I could have run 12, 14, even 16 pages given the amount of stuff in the show, but I have tried to represent a varied selection that gives you a flavour. PLUS! Much more!!
