Online dating takes time. You have to concentrate and keep an eye out for new clicks, likes and messages, and then send suitably appealing comments without repeating yourself or saying the wrong things to the wrong person. Or the same things to the one who might be the right person. It can be a full-time job.
I’ve met several women of a certain age who appear to have been online dating for ages, but they rarely admit how long. It soon emerges they are making it their hobby, their daily routine. Yet they never seem to get anywhere, otherwise why are they here, in a café with me, looking bright-eyed, about to meet another stranger? If I ask them directly why they have apparently had little luck so far, they say, oh, they are too picky.
