WORDS HANNAH PHOTOGRAPHY AMANDA
When I bought my first mountain bike I haggled a bit of a discount off it, which I then spent on a pair of pedals. Lemon and lime colour with blue pins. I chose them because they matched the paint job on my bike and the guy in the shop recommended them. I tend to operate on the basis of buying one good thing once, rather than a cheaper thing a few times over, so I blew the money saved and walked out the shop with a set of pedals that far exceeded my riding talents, along with a little tube of Loctite.
With the diligence of one who has just spent slightly more than the planned budget on a new toy (incidentally, when buying a bike, I think it’s a good rule of thumb to spend £100 more than you planned), I set about carefully dabbing Loctite on each pin and fitting them to the pedals. A satisfying experience akin to that of building a Lego model.
