The Skeptic Gives 2023 Ockham and Rusty Razor Awards

On September 23, 2023, the U.K. magazine The Skeptic gave out awards for the best of the best in skepticism and the worst of the worst in pseudoscience in the United Kingdom. The awards were given at the magazine’s annual QED conference on science and skepticism in Manchester, United Kingdom, as part of its Ockham Awards ceremony.

Knowledge Fight, a podcast created in 2017 by Dan Friesen and Jordan Holmes, takes a penetrating look into the world of political extremism by dissecting the work of propagandist Alex Jones and his Infowars network. Friesen was even invited in 2018 to give expert testimony in the case brought against Jones by Sandy Hook families. Jones had claimed on his Infowars network that the school shooting had been staged; the families successfully sued Jones for defamation. The podcast won the 2023 Ockham Award for Skeptical Activism.
