iPadOS & macOS 26
Apple continues to mash together iPadOS and macOS with a fork – so Craig Grannell wades through ‘liquid glass’ to find the best bits of these increasingly harmonised systems
THE BASICS
■ Tone it down ‘Liquid glass’ is a bit much. Dial it back in Settings > Accessibility. Turn on ‘Reduce Transparency’ under Display (‘Display & Text Size’ on iPad), and ‘Reduce Motion’ under Motion. On Mac, bring the menu bar background back via the ‘Menu Bar’ section. And if you’ve no taste, go wild with colours in Appearance, concocting artworks of the kind that would send people fleeing from Tate Modern.
■ Go retro Want to party like it’s 2010, before all the new Split View and ‘iPad windowing system’ gubbins arrived? You’re in luck: in Settings, head to ‘Multitasking & Gestures’ and turn on ‘Full-Screen Apps’. Behold: a purist single-window-mode Steve Jobs vision of the iPad will exist again.
