Golden Years
Where once almost all of the of surfers in the line-up were men, increasingly there’s a posse of chatting, laughing, smiling women to share the waves with, and it’s great to see.
We’re entering a golden age of women’s surfing. Images of female surfers in the men’s surf mags, with the odd exception, used to be of bikini-clad sun goddesses carrying their boards (or their man’s boards!) to the beach. Now women are all over the media, beaches, line-ups and are shredding waves from the North Shore to the Gold Coast and it’s so inspirational.
In this issue we share the love of the female surf community with powerful, strong women, from the talented, unstoppable Claire Bevilacqua, to visually impaired World Champ para surfer Melissa Reed
With a thirst for exploration, travel is back on our radar. While some adventurous surfers embark on journeys to the less-explored coasts of Senegal and Baja, others are dominating the line-ups from the Mentawais to Siargao. All spreading the female presence as they go.
Go seek your tribe and shine!
