Madness and genius are often separated by a worryingly diffuse line, but when you combine madness, genius and purpose, great things can happen. And so it is with the Prodrive BRX Hunter T1+. Built for new Dakar rules, it’s a four-wheel-drive behemoth – 2.3 metres wide, which works out at over 7ft 6in across the beam – that features 350mm of suspension travel on eight seats of bypass shocks, 37-inch tyres (of which there are six), a sequential box and a 500-litre fuel tank mounted amidships. Power comes from a relatively modest twin-turbo V6 stolen from the Ford F-150 Raptor and sporting a reliable 400bhp, but this thing is not so much about speed as the casual ease with which it drives over things. Anything. Everything.
