T he intent behind this attractive alt-origin tale of Alice In Wonderland and Peter Pan is meritorious (shaking up stuffy nursery tales, diverse cast, female heads of departments). But too sweet for adults and too maudlin for moppets, it struggles to truly transport. Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo (Selma) play Edwardian parents to three beautiful nippers (not a convincing actor among them) whose childhood fantasies clash with real-world misery when tragedy strikes. Could have used a little less hand mutilation and a little more fairy dust.
