Ideas and advice to help you plan your perfect trip

The Eyrie, The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille, Kenya

Taking its name from an eagle’s nest, this romantic bolthole is perched on top of a rocky outcrop. The villa’s circular bedroom — which has a domed ceiling and a huge, round bed in front of an enormous panoramic window — is designed to complement the views, which look out onto the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya. The sitting room has an open fire, beside which you can enjoy the rich aroma of burning acacia logs while watching elephant play in the nearby waterhole — a unique and unforgettable experience. ELEANOR BONSOR

Elewana Kifaru House, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

The Elewana Collection has announced the latest addition to its portfolio: Kifaru House. Previously, Kifaru was only available for group bookings on an exclusive basis but on 1 April it opened its doors to individual travellers in line with other Elewana properties. Taking its name from the Swahili word for ‘rhino’, this bush home is located in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, home to East Africa’s healthiest rhino population.

Leopard Hill, Mara Naboisho Conservancy

Situated near a series of wateringholes, Basecamp Explorer’s new camp offers you the chance to view wildlife up close. One of its standout features is the adjustable roofs on the tents, providing an unhindered view of the African night sky — and all without disturbance, as this part of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy is free of motorised vehicles.
