DURING the journey from London to the Hebrides that she would immortalise on her 1970 hippie curio Just Another Diamond Day, Vashti Bunyan and her partner Robert Lewis parked their horse-drawn caravan up at Donovan’s Hertfordshire pad. There, in a somewhat ungallant attempt to enter into the ‘free love’ spirit of the times, Lewis apparently tried to palm Bunyan off on the “Mellow Yellow” hitmaker. “I have never really known how to feel about it,” she writes in Wayward: Just Another Life To Live. “So mad at Robert or mortified because Donovan turned him down.”
