In the interesting (as always) interview with Giancarlo Tinini that we publish in this same issue of Vroom, a topic was mentioned that I would like to explore and expand upon and that I would also like to have readers comment. In fact, among other things, there is talk of the world appointment in Brazil, a “top” event that ought to help promote our sport across the globe: a “showcase” that makes karting known to the “indolent” or “the unaware” (but also to fans of engines in general), a show of its most scintillating aspects. As the CRG boss rightly points out, however, we cannot limit everything to this aspect alone: more is needed to support similar initiatives.
And so I came to think about how too often we limit ourselves to issues of a pure and simple facade, to appearance, without delving deeper into the rest of the matter. In general, it is certainly not of spectacularly organized events that karting lacks. On the contrary: in addition to the races with world and continental titles of the FIA, there are many others of international value that from Europe to the USA stand out, from the WSK series to Skusa, to individual events such as the Trofeo Margutti, just to mention the first ones that come to mind. But that can’t be all if you really want to seek (and obtain) a real promotion of karting, a concept that implies the spread and increase of our sport both in terms of numbers and image.
