The month in cricket No.1

In scenes that we couldn ’t help but be a little envious of, spectators enjoyed the sunshine, the cricket and each other’s company at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, as New Zealand took on West Indies in the second Test of a one-sided series. After Kane Williamson’s Test-best 251 set up an innings victory at Hamilton, a Henry Nicholls century and seven wickets apiece for Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson completed the rout in the country’ s capital, the Kiwis again winning by an innings to put them 0.086 points behind Australia at the top of the ICC’ s Test rankings. If New Zealand can repeat that 2-0 scoreline in their forthcoming home series against Pakistan, India will need five wins – or four wins and three draws – from their ne xt eight Tests to deny the Black Caps a place in next summer’s World Test Championship final.
