Julia Walters has never subscribed to the philosophy that less is more. In her stunning Leicestershire home, more is more and never more so than at Christmas, when she and her creative family pull out all the stops to ensure that the festive season in their home looks more like a fiesta.
Year-round the walls are festooned with family artworks, the furniture – but especially lamps and their shades – are embellished with trimmings and mini pompoms, and painted in brilliant colour. Christmas just sees this eclectic philosophy go into overdrive. ‘I like things that make me laugh and interest me,’ says Julia. ‘When it comes to Christmas decorating I don’t follow fashions, just make things and re-use things from the past which have happy memories.’
