Autism Parenting  |  Issue 171
As we head into November, I know that for some people, this may be a bleak season, in contrast to others. Nature seems to have lost its color as trees become stark and empty. Perhaps that was how you felt when your child was first diagnosed with autism—as if the color were removed from your world for a brief time. However, like all seasons, we know this shall pass. With research, support, and changes in technology, the future seems just a bit brighter. Our theme this month is “Tech and Autism: The Future Is Now,” providing insight into some helpful technology that can lend itself to enhancing certain skills and empowering some to embrace their strengths. It also points to some that may affect your child in a more negative way. No matter how bleak or stark the world may seem at different times, know that another parent has walked your path and found that brighter season up ahead. New research continues to produce hopeful findings, and technology helps to make life just a bit easier. While we may not always know if a blizzard or a bouquet is waiting around the corner, we do know that the color returns and the sun shines once more.
