Better late than never?
Matt Prior complains about drivers not signalling before leaving a roundabout (Tester’s Notes, 18 October). We’re much luckier here in Surrey, where many drivers helpfully use their indicators to confirm that they are just completing such a manoeuvre.

Matt Prior is spot on with his comments concerning the lack of signalling at roundabouts. However, it’s not just at roundabouts where this happens but also when overtaking and exiting left at junctions and slip roads.
I don’t know if this is caused by lack of training, laziness or inconsideration, or maybe these drivers assume that all other road users are psychic! In any event, it’s yet another manifestation of the ‘me, me’ attitude that unfortunately seems increasingly to prevail today.

I’ve just read Richard Lane’s review of the new BMW i5 (4 October).
I liked the look of it until I started to read about its size and hands-free driving. I, like many, appreciate the technology that comes with newer models. However, when using my side mirrors, I move my head a bit, which makes me nervous as to what this car will do when it ‘thinks’ I want to change lanes – or are these specific roads for one vehicle only?
