There was no beating these modified Teslas in a sub-kilometre run
Rally Prep’s Yates came to the rescue with a fix for Cropley’s Renault 5
Weather like this would bring out red flags in F1, but sprint competitors are a hardy lot
FRIDAY
Excited and apprehensive, I’m driving my Renault 5 long-termer 190 miles from home to Watergate Bay, Cornwall, for the local car club’s annual sprint. For two days a year, they close the road between Newquay and Watergate for a speed event, which this year has an EV class. I did it two years ago in a BMW i4 but got pulverised by rivals in lighter and pokier Tesla Model 3 Performances. Those guys are back, so my 150bhp Renault won’t be a threat, but its rapid off-the-mark acceleration could still surprise a few and its agility will be great for the course’s slower bends and evil chicane. However, tomorrow’s weather is set to be a deluge.
