ROAD TEST YEARBOOK
December
IT FEELS LIKE there’s a bit of a driver’s car vibe to December, but not in the traditional supercar/ hypercar sense – nor even necessarily the fast EV world.
I wonder if it’s fair to say that the industry has spent the past few years not quite knowing what’s going on – these are among the most tumultuous times since the dawn of the car – and perhaps, as a result, it feels like there’s something of a ‘revert to type’ going on.
A Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman, planned to be all-electric, might be available with a petrol engine after all, we reported in the first issue of December. Hyundai is thinking of a new i30 N hot hatchback. But also in the electric world, the Cupra Raval prototype shows hot hatchy shades, and the BMW iX3 in this double issue is very good to drive on its entirely passive suspension – good omens for the lower, lighter i3 saloon that will follow. Meanwhile, Genesis is doing wild things with fastback estates and its Magma hypercar.
