MY WEEK IN CARS

Cadillac is heading to UK roads with the Lyriq EV and to F1 with Pat Symonds
TUESDAY
One of the year-end pleasures for me and Matt Prior is organising Christmas interview guests for our podcast, My Week In Cars, which runs through December in four episodes, rather than two bumper issues like the magazine. One fascinating guest you will hear from is Pat Symonds, engineering hero of Formula 1, who at the beginning of the year became technical guru of the new-for-2026 Cadillac F1 team. Given that Symonds spent the previous seven years at F1 Management framing forthcoming regs, there’s no better person to ask about the sport’s future. Yet it’s the new prominence of the Cadillac brand on this side of the pond that intrigues me. Symonds says his race team, initially based at Silverstone, will become the centre of a huge new visitor-oriented complex in Indianapolis, a kind of Maranello that welcomes visitors (my words, not his). This goes with a new, worldwide prominence for Cadillac cars (the Lyriq electric SUV is due over here soon).
