PEUGEOT 308
We get an early taste of Peugeot’s new family hatchback in plug-in hybrid form
If internet traffic is anything to go by, the Peugeot 308 is one of the most popular cars on the market. Now we’ve been able to drive the new model in prototype form to see if the masses’ faith will be rewarded.
The current 308, which is just fading out of production at Peugeot’s Sochaux factory, will be remembered as a reasonably balanced compromise between driving pleasure and rational purchase, coupled with handsome design and some genuine innovation, such as the i-Cockpit.
Love it or hate it, this dashboard layout, which Peugeot introduced in 2012 with its significantly smaller than usual steering wheel and instrument cluster positioned above it, made for easy manoeuvring, a decent view out and easier cabin entry and egress – with the not insignificant downside being you couldn’t always see the instruments.
