MY WEEK IN CARS
’Stang,
Monza,
SL, 500
Piaggio, 912
Giardinetta,
MONDAY
Back from a week’s holiday, which as usual turned out to be of the busman’s variety. Travelled quite a bit with the Steering Committee and Disco, and practically every day we spotted at least one unusual car, something you simply wouldn’t expect. There was a fine left-handed Porsche 912 at a Somerset farm shop, a 40-year-old Merc SL in an Oxfordshire high street, an immaculate Opel Monza in a favourite pub car park, a shabby but serviceable Piaggio pick-up at a National Trust place near home in Gloucestershire, a fine red Mustang in lower Wiltshire and (my favourite) a petite Fiat 500 Giardinetta in the main drag through Burford, Oxfordshire. All appeared to be on routine outings, used for transport rather than display. That gave us a lot of pleasure.
