KICKING TYRES
Forget your BMW X1: this is what Ruppert wants in his garage
Motoring hacks worldwide (including some of our own) are hard at work testing 2022’s hottest new metal to determine their cars of the year. But instead of giving a gong to a new model, what if we suggested an alternative, customer-proven one?
One car that’s sure to be on everybody’s shortlist is the new BMW X1 (see p28). Back in 2009, you could just get the rear-wheel-drive, highrise 1 Series or the xDrive, which was only marginally useful off road. You would be best advised to steer clear of the 2.0d diesel engine, which breaks timing chains. With that in mind, let’s consider a 2014 2.0i SE xDrive petrol model with 87,000 miles and two previous owners. It’s yours for £9500 from a dealer with a warranty.
