TESTER’S NOTES
Porsche’s 968 is finally getting the kudos it deserves
O ur friends at Warwickshire pub/car venue Caffeine & Machine have made the kind of observation I wish I’d been smart enough to.
In a promotional post for its Strassenkultur German car-themed night – third Wednesday of the month – it highlights Porsche’s four-cylinder coupés, the 924, 944 and 968, and asks whether these classics would have had more credibility if they had been made by somebody other than Porsche.
I think they’re right. Next to a 911 or a 928, the four-pots have sometimes been considered poor relations, languishing in a way that rear-engined or multicylinder Porsches didn’t, and for a long while had residual values that didn’t ref lect how much fun they were.
