What to buy, where to buy it and how much to pay
Looks matter. Perhaps they shouldn’t, but they do – and it’s one of the reasons why people are drawn to the Lexus ES. This is one of the sharpest, sleekest and sportiest-looking compact executive saloons around and a welcome alternative to those familiar, same-again designs of its more commonplace German rivals.
It’s intriguingly distinctive under the surface, too. Although rival lineups often feature hybrid variants nowadays, the ES is rare in that it’s hybrid-only. It has a 2.5-litre petrol engine that’s assisted by two electric motors fed by a battery pack – and that’s the sole set-up.
