Dented confidence
I’ve just read Felix Page’s piece on the Range Rover (Our Cars, 21 June), and while it can be useful to have all of those cameras, it doesn’t always help in the real world. I have a new Land Rover Defender 90, and it’s a wonderful car to drive, but its width means I hate taking it anywhere.
I’ve done only 15,000 miles, but every panel on the car is dented or scratched from mishaps in car parks. I find it impossible to park between two cars, because it’s then impossible to open the doors.
I went to look at the Range Rover on Sunday and couldn’t believe the size of it – absolutely stupid. My plan was to keep the Defender for life (I will never buy an electric car), but the sheer size of it makes me wonder how long I can put up with always having parking anxiety.
Oh, and one more thing: before I disabled the proximity sensors, the bloody thing would swerve into oncoming traffic when it thought I was too close to the grass verge – a frightening experience only exacerbated by the car being too wide for everyday life. Gavin Young Telford, Shropshire
Right up my lane
As you so often say, lane departure warning (LDW) and lane keeping assistance (LKA) systems can be a complete pain in the backside.
