Renault 5 is on the cusp of gaining a conquest sale in the Cotswolds
MONDAY
I began the Happy New Year driving a lefthanded Renault 5 EV prototype the company allowed me to take away from a final Car of the Year judge-off organised for the UK’s six jurors late in December (see p48). The latest winner will be announced at the Brussels show just two days after this issue hits the streets, and having driven all seven finalists, my clear and obvious choice would be the 5. However, given that the 60 European jurors’ opinions reflect market conditions in 23 countries (and that I’m not on the panel), a Renault victory isn’t a done deal.
