Missing cat
I ordered a new Jaguar XF from Pentland Jaguar Edinburgh almost a year ago, paying a £500 deposit. I was informed approximately three months later that Jaguar had cancelled my order and changed the model available. I selected to accept the revised model but was advised that Jaguar had “temporarily” closed down XF production, due to chip shortages. I’ve since been advised that production hasn’t restarted.
I rather suspect that this is due to the new Jaguar CEO having no intention of resuming XF production.
I’m 79 years old; this XF would be the 12th Jaguar of my lifetime and probably the last car I would buy.
I’ve searched for information as to the position at Jaguar, but no one has been able to give me any answers.

Winchburgh, West Lothian Jaguar said: “Jaguar is currently being affected by the global shortage of semiconductors, which are essential to the manufacturing of new vehicles. The impact on delivery times from the point of order can be found online at jaguar.co.uk/vehicle-availability.html. For the XF, delays may continue for more than 12 months.”
It didn’t have to die
I couldn’t agree more with your assertion that the BMW i3 is a future classic (‘The immortals’, 23 February).
