Shutterstock.comNo one should have to spend a night on the streets, but sadly, many people do. One 2018 study, conducted by the homeless charity Shelter (shelter.org.uk), found that 320,000 people in the UK are homeless. This is a huge amount, yet the report recorded rough sleepers and those living in temporary accommodation, which still leaves those who are sofa surfing, living in cars or staying in sheds out of the final figure.
Living on the streets or being without permanent accommodation, comes with numerous risks and problems. Personal safety is all but gone, gaining employment is near impossible, and communication with family and friends is either extremely difficult or personally undesirable – unsurprisingly, rough sleepers often don’t want their friends and families to know that they’re homeless. Living rough is a scary, unsafe and severely lonely experience.
