When Richard sold his business in 2012, he and wife Liz decided to take their yacht to France to go sailing. After a few years of adventure at sea, they wanted to undertake a new project, so bought a village plot near family and friends and sold the boat. With a shared love of the light, space and flow of barns, they hoped to emulate these features in their project. However, the site’s conservation area status would not allow a barn-style home. So instead, they worked with Border Oak’s architectural design team to create a one-off cottage that delivered the features they loved but fitted with the council’s expectations.
