This Japanese rice paper drawing was among a number of lots to draw strong bidding at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury’s (24% buyer’s premium) offering of the Jan Krugier collection.
Soko Protecting Lady Fujiyo from danger, a 11¾in x 12¼in (30 x 31cm) ink drawing attributed to the famed Edo-period printmaker Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), sold to a private UK buyer for 11 times its top estimate at £55,000.
The 200-lot sale, held in Donnington Priory in Berkshire on March 8, joined the roster of auctions that have been formed from the property of Krugier, the renowned late modern art dealer and holocaust survivor.
