The Foire de Chatou is an exhausting business for the 400 dealers who stand here, as it runs for nine hours on each of the 11 public days. Plenty of refreshment is called for, as these two dealers demonstrated at the March event this year.

If you want to see some impressive room sets, then the biannual Foire de Chatou, 15km from Paris and held on the banks of the River Seine, is the place.
This is a great chance to gaze at 18th century painted panels, tapestries, paintings and magnificent sandalwood library furniture before some of these pieces are trundled into vans to adorn the homes of French media moguls and the stock smartly replaced.
