This Victorian silver-gilt claret jug is estimated at £400-600 in Humbert & Ellis’s sale on October 5 in Whittlebury, Northampton.
It stands 14in (35cm) high and is decorated with a central band of lions, masks and grape vines. A curled serpent forms the lid. It was made by Stephen Smith & William Nicholson of Duke Street and is hallmarked for London, 1861.
