Camille Claudel family collection comes to auction

Paris saleroom Artcurial will offer a group of 20 works from the family of Camille Claudel (1864-1943) for sale on November 27, writes Roland Arkell.

The bronzes, terracottas and plaster casts come from the Claudel family home in Villeneuve-sur-Fère where the artist lived from the age of four. The De Massary collection (the name of Claudel’s brother-in-law) has been the subject of numerous exhibitions including events at the Rodin Museum in 1951 and 1984. Next month’s sale, offered in association with the sculpture consultants Alexandre Lacroix and Eve Turbat, comprises 16 sculptures and one work on paper by Claudel plus a pastel portrait by her friend Gita Theuriet and two plaster models by Rodin.
