Argyll Talking Newspapers, a registered charity, records readings of local newspapers so that people with visual impairment can keep up with the news. The volunteers then send out the recordings on memory sticks to more than 150 people. Mr O’Hara, who recorded a reading from the Argyllshire Advertiser and the Campbeltown Courier during his visit, said: ‘What a fantastic idea. It is groups like these which are at the heart of our community. Blind or visually impaired people can often feel on the periphery of society but this service helps keep them in the know.’
