Arthritis Digest  |  2021 Issue 5
Our gut bacteria appear to have an important role to play in arthritis. Researchers do not yet know how but we will be sure to keep you updated. Meanwhile, a plethora of studies highlight the pros and cons of particular foods.
Anita Bean’s Puy Lentil Bolognese on page 7 embraces the findings that eating a largely plant-based diet reduces many arthritis symptoms. We’ve also found studies that look at tryptophan (in nuts and seeds), prunes and magnesium (in dark chocolate) to take on aspects of pain and inflammation.
Our star interviewee, Sylvia Maharaj OBE explains that her own tea recipe lowered her arthritis symptoms to such an extent that she was signed off by her rheumatology team.
Elsewhere, we meet Dr Stephanie Ling who gets us up to speed on new treatments for inflammatory arthritis. And hand therapist, Christy Fowler, outlines how she helps people with all forms of hand arthritis.
