LYNSEY SHARP has enjoyed another great season – reaching the Olympic final, breaking her Scottish 800m record and finishing with a 500m CityGames win (see p6).
The only shame is that she has been drawn into the Caster Semenya debate. Rarely has an interview taken place without someone trying to quiz her on the topic and criticism on social media reached such a point last month that Sharp had to quit Twitter.
The Semenya situation should not be her problem. It is the IAAF’s issue to sort out and the 26-year-old should be left to focus on her own athletics ability.
She is some talent, too. Four years ago GB selectors realised this by picking her to run 800m in the London Olympics ahead of four Brits with superior season’s best times.
