THIS LEGO LIFE
ONE WITH THE FORCE
KAT REES-JAUKE
With Star Wars Celebration full of positivity, Kat reflects on what it means to be a LEGO Star Wars fan
FOR STAR WARS fans there is a regular pilgrimage. An event filled with the Force. And that’s Star Wars Celebration. When it was announced that the event would be returning to London for Star Wars Celebration 2023, I knew I had to go. As a massive fan of this universe I have watched the livestreams of previous conventions in the USA, but the time difference is no joke when trying to keep up with all the news. Usually the LEGO Group uses Star Wars Celebration as a place to announce new sets and to sell exclusives, and although that didn’t happen this year, the brand still made a big impact.
So, why weren’t there any new set announcements at this Celebration? This is most likely due to timing. Star Wars Celebration 2023 came only 10 months after the previous Celebration in Anaheim. Typically there is a much larger time gap between these events. From a production standpoint there will likely not be much the LEGO Star Wars designers can reveal, with sets being finalised or the source material still under embargo. 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor was only revealed two weeks after Celebration, because it otherwise would have spoiled the explosive finale of the show.
