10. 9457 FANGPYRE WRECKING BALL
When you’re wandering around a construction site, do you find yourself looking at a crane with an attached wrecking ball and think ‘that would look better if it was designed like a snake’? If so, you’ll be glad to know you’re not alone; the downside is that the NINJAGO theme was more than 10 years ahead of you. There’s plenty of play potential in this set, with swooshability provided in a completely unique way. The set has a great aesthetic – the distinct, intimidating eyes, pointed tale and purple flames all mean that no-one is safe when this machine is on a rampage.

9. 70831 EMMET'S DREAM HOUSE/RESCUE ROCKET!
The perfect suburban house has a pretty front, windows and some garden space. Should it also be able to turn into a rocket? Traditionally no, but that certainly doesn’t stop Emmet from doing what he has to do when he needs to head into space at short notice. This is a perfect 2-in-1 set – inside the house there’s a furnished living room and an attic, but some modifications turn it into a robust rocket. There’s a nostalgic colour scheme and blocky build that evokes some of the classic LEGO houses from the 1970s and 1980s. At £54.99, this set was a complete steal – if only property (and space technology) was still that cheap today.
