Anew Sparks album is like a new Black Mirror season. You think you know what to expect, but somehow it surprises you, presenting a world recognisably yours yet freakish.
If its characters are often cartoonish, its scenarios are nonetheless frequently gripping, and hell, it’s dystopian, too: on The Existential Threat, Russell Mael warns “Threat outside/ Let me hide/ Just until the danger passes”.
