DNA: You had a gay old time performing at Mardi Gras in Sydney recently, didn’t you? Bielfield:I needed to, though [laughs]. Being from Miami and New York and now being in Sydney it’s like I am trying to bring in new ideas all the time.
What made you give up Miami and NYC for Australia? I really like Australia. When I first came here in 2013 with a friend, he wanted me to do some shows with him. Something musically happened and I felt I needed to come back. So I did and Sony Music asked me to sing for them.
I sang a cappella and they thought I was batshit crazy because I didn’t need a pianist. I wanted to show them everything I could do and evaluate that from a commercial standpoint. They loved it and asked me to come back. I created 15 songs in two weeks and they thought the volume was spectacular. I flew back and forth until I formally moved.
