WITH A MINIMAL CREW MAINTAINING ITS automated systems, the Transtellar cargo transporter SS Pentallian ferries its load across the Torajii system, half a universe away from the Earth. Run as cheaply as possible by Captain Kath McDonnell, the vessel operates an illegal fusion energy scoop to collect fuel by scooping the surfaces of suns. To avoid detection by the authorities, McDonnell neglects to scan the sphere of hot plasma which forms Torajii before taking on board the sun particles vital for her engines…

A little later, a strange force infects and takes possession of Korwin, McDonnell’s husband and one of her crew. Apparently berserk, he puts the ship into secure closure, a money-saving security precaution to seal off the vital control areas of the SS Pentallian in case of assault by hi-jackers. With the rest of the team isolated from the vital chamber at the front of the ship, he sends a heat pulse to melt the controls, wrecking the engines and leaving the ship to head for destruction upon impact with Torajii.

About Doctor Who Magazine

“Space: the final frontier. Final, because it wants to kill us...” The TARDIS doesn’t just travel through time – stories set in space have been an essential part of Doctor Who for six decades. The inhospitable void between the stars has served as the backdrop to epic space operas and nerve-racking thrillers, while harbouring some of the most dangerous adversaries the Doctor has ever encountered. This lavish publication navigates a revealing course through the space lanes of Doctor Who, with exclusive interviews, rare images, and guides to some of the most memorable episodes.
