Dollhouse Miniatures  |  Issue 95
As artists, the creative pressure we put on ourselves has its own pros and cons. The obvious pro is that it pushes us to improve. With each new project we use what we learned from the last to improve the next. Be it a new technique, using new tools or even pushing our vision to a higher standard.
The cons are much more difficult to manage. Almost every artist is a perfectionist. We see every flaw we make and sometimes we exaggerate them in our minds. The funny thing is our audience rarely even sees the flaws.
After college, I never hung any of my own art in my home for decades because I knew my focus would only be on what I could have done better.
It wasn’t until after I changed my creative process that I was able to enjoy my artwork. Instead of it being about making ‘perfect’ art, the focus was to have fun and share my vision with the world. If an artist evokes an emotion from their audience or even wonderful memories then the artist has succeeded.
If you’re a creative person please know it’s a wonderful gift and something that you should nurture and share with the world. As an audience, please let artists know when their work stirs you emotionally. It will mean the world to them!
